Edit images in the article editor
Hover over any image in the article editor and click Edit to open the Edit Image modal. From there you can crop the image or add annotations such as arrows, step markers, highlights, and pixelation.
Supported formats
The image editor supports PNG, JPEG, and WebP images. GIF images cannot be edited; if an image is a GIF, the Edit button does not appear.
Open the editor
Hover over an image inside the article editor.
Click the Edit button that appears.
The Edit Image modal opens with the toolbar at the top.
Toolbar tools
The toolbar contains the following tools:
Crop — select an area of the image to keep
Arrow — draw arrows pointing to elements
Step — add numbered step markers
Highlight — highlight areas of the image
Pixelate — pixelate sensitive areas
Undo — step back through changes
Redo — reapply a change you undid
Crop an image
Click Crop in the toolbar.
Adjust the crop area on the image.
Click Finish Crop to apply the crop, or click Reset to discard it and start over.
Add annotations
Select an annotation tool from the toolbar, then use the footer controls to tune its appearance:
Select annotation color — choose a color for the annotation
Select thickness — set the stroke width
Arrow head style — choose Standard or Open
Step formatting — choose 1 2 3, A B C, a b c, or I II III
Click Revert original to remove all annotations and restore the original image.
Save or cancel
When you are finished, click Save to apply the changes to the article image. Click Cancel to close the modal without saving. If a save error occurs, click Retry.
Edit screenshots after insertion
After inserting a screenshot (whether from Automate screenshots in your docs or a manual upload), you can open it in the editor to crop or add annotations.
